  • Your story: if you choose to share your experience through our Share Your Story form, including any photos you voluntarily upload

  • Volunteer information: your availability, areas of interest, and background, submitted through our Volunteer form

  • Nomination information: information about a third party you are nominating for support, including their name, contact details, and circumstances — submitted only with your confirmation that you have permission to do so, or with the understanding that we will contact them gently and privately before taking any action

  • Newsletter preferences: your email address and first name when you subscribe to our newsletter

  • Messages: the content of any message you send through our Contact Us form

 

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, our hosting platform (Wix) automatically collects certain technical information, including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and how long you stayed on each page. We use this only to understand how our website is being used and to improve it.

3. Health Information

Our Request Support and Nominate Someone forms ask about cancer diagnoses and treatment status. We treat this information with the highest level of sensitivity and care. We are not a healthcare provider and are not subject to HIPAA, but we apply the same spirit of confidentiality: health information is never shared outside our team, never used for purposes other than determining how we can help, and never published in any form without your explicit written permission.

Specifically, health information you share with us is:

  • Read only by the members of our team directly involved in reviewing support requests and nominations

  • Never shared with sponsors, donors, partner organizations, or any other third parties

  • Never used for marketing or fundraising purposes without your explicit, separate consent

  • Stored securely and deleted upon your request

Cancer type is marked as optional on all forms where it appears. You may submit a support request or nomination without disclosing a specific diagnosis.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide only for the purposes for which it was submitted:

  • Support requests and nominations: to review your situation and determine how we may be able to help; to follow up with you directly

  • Volunteer inquiries: to match you with volunteer opportunities and follow up about involvement

  • Story submissions: to share your story publicly (only with the sharing preference you selected) or to keep it private within our team

  • Contact form messages: to respond to your question, inquiry, or request

  • Newsletter signups: to send you our newsletter and event announcements — never more than twice a month

  • Donation processing: handled entirely by Zeffy — see Section 6

  • Website analytics: to understand how visitors use our site and improve it

We do not use your information for automated decision-making, profiling, or targeted advertising of any kind.

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone — ever.

We share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Within our team: form submissions are shared only with the Foundation team members who need to review and respond to them

  • Story submissions: shared publicly only according to the sharing preference you selected — publicly with your name, publicly anonymously, or privately with our team only. We will never change your sharing preference without asking you first.

  • Nominations: the nominee's information is shared within our team for the purpose of following up with them. We contact nominees privately and with complete discretion before taking any action.

  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority. We will notify you of any such request to the extent permitted by law.

  • With your explicit consent: for any purpose not described in this policy, we will always ask you first

6. Third-Party Services

Our website relies on several third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle your data:


Wix (Website Hosting)

Zeffy (Donation Processing)

All donations are processed through Zeffy, a third-party platform. When you donate, your payment and personal information is submitted directly to Zeffy — we receive a record of the donation but do not receive or store your full payment details. See Zeffy's Privacy Policy.


Google Fonts

Our website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when you visit our site. This may transmit your IP address to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.


Email Marketing Platform

Our newsletter is managed through Zeffy. When you subscribe, your email address and first name are stored on that platform. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. See Zeffy's Privacy Policy.

Our pages on Facebook and Instagram are subject to the privacy policies of Meta. If you interact with our social media pages, that data is governed by Meta's policies, not ours.

  • Story submissions: retained for as long as the story is displayed or in use. If you request removal, we will remove your story from all public-facing materials promptly.

  • Contact form messages: retained for up to one year from the date of submission, or until resolved.

  • Newsletter subscriptions: retained until you unsubscribe. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter we send.

  • Analytics data: retained according to Wix's data retention policy.

9. Your Rights

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If a minor is being nominated for support, that nomination must be submitted by a parent, legal guardian, or another adult authorized to act on the child's behalf.

11. Security

We take the security of your information seriously — particularly health information submitted through our support request and nomination forms. Our website is hosted on Wix, which uses industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted through the site.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we do our best to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your information has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
